Frank the Tank

So Jared had his 2 month visit today. We would like to say that everything is just fantastic...but it's not. We spent the early afternoon getting a skull and chest x-ray. He has had a bump on his head that I noticed when he was about 2 weeks old that the doctor wasn't too worried about, but wanted to get an x-ray for. She thinks it is just bruising from the vaccuum they used when he was born. The doctor also heard a heart murmur and is referring us to a pediatric cardiologist. She thinks it is the kind he will outgrow because she can hear it under his arm which is I guess "good" for a heart murmur. She thinks that his little heart vessels are small and that is why she is hearing the murmur. It makes sense also, because he is not having any growth issues, which would accompany a major heart murmur. Also, we do know that he has small blood vessels because when he gets cold or real upset, you can see them through his fair skin when they contract. She says many babies don't have that trait, and it is a bit rare, but totally normal. We had to get a chest x-ray today, then when we go to the cardiologist, he will have an EKG and an ultrasound so they can find out exactly what is wrong. The x-rays were horrific. Jared was screaming the whole time since the lady made me hold him down through each picture, then when they had to do his head, I had to hold his chin and cheeks to keep his head from moving. He was so upset, and we had passed lunch time, so he was hungry.

He also has a hernia in his belly button and a little section right above it. The section above his belly button will have to be fixed, but not anytime soon. Probably when he is about 2 years old, he will have surgery to fix it. It doesn't hurt him, so there is no reason to fix it now. The belly button should close on his own in the next year or so. He also got his shots today, three in his legs and one orally. He is currently sleeping it off, since his little legs were hurting him where he got his shots. He doesn't want to eat and will only cuddle. It's gonna be a long night.

On the other hand, he is now 12 pounds, 2 ounces. He is 22 1/2 inches long and his head has grown to 15 3/4. He's HUGE! He does not have any issues eating and the doctor was very happy with how he has been doing.

It's been a rough day in the Colato home. We are not sure really what to think. Our mom's keep telling us that lots of kids get murmurs and everything will be fine. I am sure it will be, but we won't be resting easy until we know for sure. We're tired now. Never knew life would be this stressful with a baby. I think I will go check on our sleeping baby...

Ryan had a herniated belly button too which is totally fine now, and they also told me they "heard" a heart murmur, but then never again heard it... so all in good timing, you are right not to stress yourselves much of the time it truly turns out to be ok!
